KUCHING (Oct 25): The Sarawak Initiatives on Monday paid a courtesy call on Education, Innovation and Talent Development Minister Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn to update the minister on the organisation’s workshop related to education autonomy.

In a statement, The Sarawak Initiatives said the visit was to deliver a report about the Sarawak Education Workshop that was held on July 4 and 5 for Sagah to take up to the federal government.

“The workshop concluded that the general consensus of the participants, comprising educationists, academicians and policymakers from a wide section of our community, is that Sarawak would like to have autonomy in our education,” it said.

It said autonomy included executive power on human capital and resources, as well as training of teachers.

“The workshop also discussed the education curriculum and the setting up of the education department under Sarawak Ministry of Education.”

The Sarawak Initiatives also pointed out that the issue of land and funding was discussed during the workshop.

“Drawing upon their extensive decades-long experience in education, the participants unanimously concurred that there is an urgent need for a revolutionary transformation of the education system in Sarawak to enhance its quality.”

The delegation from The Sarawak Initiatives was led by its chairman Sidi Munan. – The Borneo Post
